Board Game Mania
The Client
Pothead books is a book publisher that specialized in books and games for people who are a fan of cannabis-related culture.
The Challenge
Based on a rough diagram, I was challenged to create characters, board and pieces for a fun pot-themed board game.
Designing the Players
Coming up with the "players" of the game was a lot of function. I dove head first into creating characters that I thought would live in this wild game world.
Making Cuts & Finishing Up
I was asked to remove some of the characters and went to work finishing the 6 remaining contenders. I used a painting technique that involved both Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop to make the look of this project.
Visualizing the Board
With a text document explaining the game and a list of how many panels would be on the board, I created a "map" to help me visualize all the contents I'd need to make on the board.
Once everything was planned out, I went to work on designing the panels and characters within. It was quite the task, but lots of fun!
A Marathon, Not a Sprint
This was a pretty big project to complete as one person, but I learned a lot about making something readable to a player (while still being crazy & cool) and had a tons of character creation opportunities.
This project also has dozens of game pieces I designed too, maybe I'll show them another time. It's not printed yet, but when it is, I'll share some great pics of it in action
